It is our aim to ensure that Downe House moves forward and remains at the forefront of boarding education. Our girls are preparing for an increasingly demanding future and we want them to have the very best preparation for life and the maximum range of opportunities, so that they can develop as rounded individuals and leave us ready to make a significant contribution to society.
It is also our hope and aspiration that Downe House should, as our Founder intended, continue to be a thriving community so that the girls benefit from strong parental involvement, the support of our alumnae and, of course, the highest caliber of staff.
As part of our strategy to achieve this the School has focused on strategic projects such as the refurbishment of Holcombe and Darwin, the building of the new Lower School houses, and improvements made to the dining facilities and surrounding area on the ground floor of Willis House. Finally, our latest and most significant development, the Murray Centre, which has brought such a positive and dramatic change for the whole school community.
It is at this point each year that we invite Upper Sixth families to make a contribution to the Leavers’ Gift Fund. The total donated by families last year was just in excess of £22,000, which was wonderful! On the parents and girls’ request, the funds were divided between the refurbishment of the Sixth Form social areas, the Ten Year Vision and Bursaries. The results of their generosity can be seen in both Willis and York Houses.
The Upper Sixth Leavers of 2019 have been asked to nominate how they would like any funds raised this year to be spent.
We very much hope that you might consider making a donation to the Leavers’ Gift Fund 2019.
