Following on from Senior Choral being crowned Barnardo’s ‘Senior Choir of the Year’ in 2018, we are delighted to announce that this year, Choral have reached the finals of the Barnardo’s National Choral Competition.

Choral will be taking their place on stage at the Royal Festival Hall in London on 4 March 2019 as just one of eight choirs selected from the senior age category and will sing their chosen competition piece as well as joining in with two massed choir items. There will be a first and second place awarded to each age category and the two winning choirs will be invited to sing a song, specially composed by conductor and composer, Douglas Coombes MBE at one of Barnardo’s Young Supporters’ Concerts later in the year. As the winning choir in 2018, Senior Choral sang Will Todd’s The Lord is My the Royal Albert Hall, a truly unforgettable experience for all the girls in the choir.

Director of Music, Dr Charlotte Exon said, ‘We are all absolutely thrilled that this year, Choral are through to the National Finals of the Barnardo’s Choir of the Year Competition 2019. It is such a fantastic opportunity for this very talented group of girls to sing at the Royal Festival Hall – we can’t wait for competition day!’

Choral is a non-auditioned choir open to all girls in the Lower Fifth, Upper Fifth and Sixth Form and is celebrating its 100th year in 2019 having been established in 1919. Find out more about Choral, the oldest choir out of the six choirs which the Music Department currently run at Downe House.
